Message From The Board Of Directors
The
Mission Council on Alcohol Abuse for the Spanish Speaking,
Inc., has provided services for alcohol and substance abuse
since July 20,1978. As board members we are committed to the ideal
of delivering culturally competent, community-based services that
are accessible to everyone. In order to increase comprehensive services,
MCAASS has added a mental health component
to serve dual diagnosed client. In concert with the mission mental
health program, we are able to provide greater wrap around services.
As an agency
we are constantly striving to meet the various needs of our clients
by offering our services in a dignified and
professional manner. We at the Mission Council
take pride
in our quality-driven programs and welcome the public

When
you make a decision to change your life or the life of someone you
love, the Mission Council is ready and willing to
accept your decision and provide the highest quality substance abuse
rehabilitation resources for you or your loved ones.
The Mission
Council is dedicated to providing services that minimize
and prevent alcohol and other drug-related problems for individuals,
families, and groups of the underserved population. The Mission
Council accomplishes this by providing a comprehensive,
consumer focused, culturally relevant, cost effective drug abuse
program affordable to all.

Leonard Chavez-Smith
Executive Director
The Executive Director, Leonard Chavez-Smith, has been active in
substance abuse recovery programs for more than 25 years. He began
his career as a counselor and worked his way up to executive director.
He is a graduate of the University of California with two master's
degrees; psychology and public health. In addition, during the Vietnam
conflict he was in the U.S. Army and received an honorable discharge
with the rank of Sergeant First Class. He worked with the medical
corps and assisted in treating drug emergencies and overdoses as
well as regular combat injuries. In 1999, he was presented with
the City Wide Alcohol Board's award for significant contributions
in the prevention and treatment of substance abuse and continuing
recovery. He has been the director of all programs at the Mission
Council for over eleven years.
